UFO Play Area, Heaton Park
Out-of-this-world play for all ages
We were thrilled to be involved in redeveloping this iconic play space in Manchester’s Heaton Park. The brief called for a bold and imaginative redesign that would breathe new life into the area while providing a wide range of play opportunities for children of all ages.
At the centre of the scheme is a showstopping 9.5-metre-tall UFO play tower, built to accommodate the park’s original slide, which we carefully repurposed. The transformation delivers a new sense of adventure and scale.
Space to play, explore, and imagine
Surrounding the UFO tower is a galaxy of themed equipment and inclusive features. A wheelchair-accessible roundabout with orbiting planets encourages social and imaginative play. Elsewhere, a toddler-friendly “Space Station,” rope climbers, springers, rock boulders, and spinners add layers of fun and challenge.
Every element was chosen to complement the space theme while supporting physical development and inclusive access. The result is a vibrant and memorable destination play area, an out-of-this-world experience for families visiting Heaton Park.
