Chilton Square Playground, London
A sculptural play space for King’s Cross
With the concept design by Root and Erect and working with main contractor Maylim, we developed, fabricated and installed a series of bespoke play structures for the Chilton Square playground in King’s Cross, London.
The original design by Root and Erect features interweaving steel tubes that flow through the space, weaving between trees and planting to form sculptural play routes. Ropes, nets and bars add opportunities for play and exploration, inviting children to balance, climb and move through the landscape.
Additional satellite features including a nest swing, bench swing and low level climbing area extend the play experience and connect Chilton Square to the nearby Lewis Cubitt Park, creating a continuous, playful journey through the public space.
Built responsibly, crafted with precision
Working with Allt Environmental and Toby Savage Design, we engineered the play structures to be installed with concreteless foundations and fabricated using reused surplus steel, reducing environmental impact while maintaining durability and safety. Each element was precision built in our Stockport workshop before being finished in a distinctive metallic paint system.
Chilton Square Playground stands as an example of how creative collaboration and sustainable engineering can deliver a play environment that is as visually striking as it is functional.
