The playground is a place of fun, carefree joy, a kaleidoscope of colour and swings that can touch the sky. But behind the scenes, there's a meticulous design philosophy that underpins all the work that we carry out at Massey and Harris.
Our Design Philosophy is aligned with our Company Values and we always refer to our company values when designing new playground equipment. Quality; Innovation; Sustainability and Adaptability is foremost in our mind when going about any new project or design, but we go an additional step to make sure that our equipment becomes amazing.
Play Value: This goes beyond simply putting equipment in a space. It's about creating an environment that stimulates a child's imagination and can help encourage a wide range of play. When designing play areas and play equipment we'll incorporate various textures, sounds and interactive elements to engage the child's senses. We believe that a great playground should offer opportunities for children to take calculated risks, to problem solve and to understand the elements of risk and reward. A playground should be a dynamic space for all who use it.
Inclusive Design: We go beyond the simple box ticking elements of creating inclusive playgrounds and we advocate for designing integrated play experiences where children of all abilities can play together. Playgrounds should be accessible and enjoyable for all. We look at how we can implement sensory rich areas and equipment what can be used for children with additional requirements or with limited mobility. Our goal is to create a seamless, inclusive play experience where no child feels isolated or left out.
Sustainability: A playground is an investment in the future, and at Massey and Harris we take that literally. We prioritise the use of durable, recycled material and we propose materials that are fit for purpose and that they'll stand the test of time. Our relentless focus on sustainability ensures that playgrounds are not only fun but will also remain a valuable community asset for generations to come.
Beyond the Equipment
What really sets Massey and Harris apart from the competition is our focus on the entire play environment, not just the individual pieces of equipment. Our Designers consider the flow of space and how children will move around the play area, sightlines for parents and guardians and the integration of the playground into the surrounding environment and community.
We will create zones for different age ranges and activities, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all. The result is more than just a playground; it's a vibrant community hub that fosters independence, creativity, empathy, and social interaction.
The Massey and Harris approach reminds us that a playground is a powerful tool for the community, and it can help bring children together. Prioritising play value, inclusivity, and sustainability we're not just designing structures, we shape experiences and create a more playful world for all.
