Volunteering at The Welcome Café Christmas Party
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, two members of our team, Alison Brooks, Business Manager, and Regan Mannion, Operations Co-ordinator, were delighted to once again lend a hand at the Annual Christmas Party held at The Welcome Café in Reddish, Stockport.
The Welcome Café is a much-loved community hub that hosts a weekly social meet-up for pensioners, offering warm food, hot drinks, friendly conversation, and a welcoming place to spend time. Alongside their weekly gatherings, they also organise raffles, day trips, and special events, all to help local seniors stay connected and active.
Helping Make the Day Special
Each year, our team supports the café’s Christmas Party by transporting food, raffle prizes, and decorations to the venue, as well as helping to prepare the room for the celebration.
“A lot of the regulars are over 80 years old, so it’s the least we can do!” said Regan.
For 2025, we wanted to do something extra. To ensure that every guest had a gift to take home, we donated a wonderful selection of flowers, plants, and Christmas baubles. The tables were decorated with the gifts before guests arrived, and their reactions were priceless. Seeing how much joy these small gestures brought to everyone made the day even more meaningful.
Joining the Festivities
Later in the afternoon, Alison returned to join in the celebrations, taking part in the quiz, chatting with guests, and listening to stories from years gone by.
“It is so lovely to sit down and listen to stories from the past,” said Alison. “Working in playgrounds, we mostly connect with children in the community, so it was wonderful to hear memories of playgrounds ‘back in the day’!”
Strengthening Local Connections
We are proud to continue supporting The Welcome Café and the amazing work they do for seniors in our community. Their dedication to creating a warm, inclusive environment aligns perfectly with our social value commitments, and we look forward to continuing our involvement for years to come.
