From Sketchbook to Scale Model: A Week of Work Experience

Our latest work experience student turned hand sketches into a hand-built scale model, working through an accessible play structure concept design in a week.

From sketchbook to scale model

We recently had a school student join us for a week of work experience. By the end of their time with us, they'd gone from a blank page to a scale model, sketching, refining and building along the way.

The brief: to design an inclusive multiplay system with real flexibility and modularity built in. Cue a run of concept sketches, a race track slide layout, musical pipes and mechanism details, and a set of platforms and play features to suit any site, age range and ability. Then came the physical build: cardboard, wooden dowels and printouts, shaped into a scale model of the play system.

Have a look at how it came together, from first sketch to finished model.

Hands-on graft like this is exactly why we love investing in the next generation of play designers. If you're thinking about work experience, get in touch. We'd be glad to have you on board.
