Newmarket Racecourse Case Study

Challenge

Massey and Harris were approached by Forma Landscapes to design new playground equipment for Newmarket Racecourse.

The Jockey Club were looking to develop the play provision at their flagship racecourse to enhance days out for children and adults alike.

The client wanted a largely natural feel to the playground and for the play unit to have height, giving exhilaration to the children who used it.

Solution

Massey and Harris designed a bespoke play solution which included a two platform play unit designed to mimic the outline of a horse.

We also designed a bespoke sand play unit, timber swing and crawl tunnels.  Slides further enhanced the underlying design aspect of the horse themed play unit.

To meet the clients requirement for a largely natural feel to the playground, Massey and Harris utilised their knowledge of timber and wood craftsmanship to design and manufacture the various play items within the scheme.

The area was landscaped and surfaced with high quality, play grade bark and turfed to compliment the natural feel to the play area.

Result

Since completion in April 2017, the playground has been used by families and children and received numerous positive compliments from the users and client.

Our client was impressed with the bespoke nature of the equipment and the scheme and committed to a second phase at another of the Jockey Club’s locations.
